A graffiti wall rug, ceramic tears, elaborate contemporary glass, wooden animal sculptures and a series of modern decorative plates. Organised annually by the Finnish Association of Designers Ornamo, the Art and Design Sale will bring hundreds of artworks to Puristamo, Helsinki Cable Factory, in March 2018. These include unique objects, miniature sculptures, jewellery as well as ceramic, metal, glass and textile art by well-known and rising designers and artists. Buying art at the Art and Design Sale is easy and effortless –come by to see our selection!
The selection will vary throughout the sale, as the sold items are replaced with new ones by the artists. The Ornamo Art and Design Sale has established itself as a venue for collectors, many of whom are scouting new talents. Many artworks for sale also end up in esteemed art collections, such as the Finnish State Art Collection. This year the patron of the Art and Design Sale is Kaisa Koivisto, Deputy Director of the Finnish Glass Museum.
Gallerist of the Art and Design Sale for many years, jewellery artist Clarice Finell says that traditional techniques have become trendy again: “Besides various recycling ideas, artists are again using the materials that they studied or have been using a longer time. Wall rugs are popular again. And not only in textile arts but also in ceramics with rug-like surface structures. Other traditional techniques are also in vogue now, as is the high technical and artistic quality that will go a long way.”
