'ein&zwanzig'The German Design Council report on their 'ein&zwanzig' scheme, with 21 international design newcomers exhibiting in Milan.

With the international competition 'ein&zwanzig', the German Design Council promotes and supports talented young designers: Design students and graduates who are producing innovative, pioneering work in the areas of furniture, home accessories, lighting, floor coverings, wall coverings, textiles and lifestyle can compete for the awards.

An international jury of experts will select 21 outstanding works from the entries submitted: 20 'Winner' awards and one 'Best of the Best' prize.

574 product and project submissions were received from 36 countries worldwide, amongst them particpants from 11 European countries. The international jury, consisting of representatives from the fields of industry, science and design, worked diligently to select the most impressive entries. 56 projects were chosen for the short list which will be displayed online at www.ein-und-zwanzig.com as of March 1st.

The winning products will be exhibited during Tortona Design Week from April 4th-9th, 2017 as part of the Salone del Mobile 2017 in Milan. This innovative show gives international designers of the next generation the opportunity to present themselves and their work to an international audience.

The exhibition that will be shown during Tortona Design Week was created by Studio Besau-Marguerre, whose designers, Eva Marguerre and Marcel Besau, were themselves newcomer finalists for the German Design Award 2014. Today, they already have such prestigious projects as the furnishings for the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg under their belts.

The jury for the international young talent award ein&zwanzig reads like a small who’s who of design: Mathias Hahn, Carole Baijings, Konstantin Grcic, Uli Budde, Stefano Giovannoni, Nina Bruun, Raw Color (Daniera ter Haar, Christoph Brach), Barbara Friedrich, Philipp Mainzer (from top left to bottom right) and Simon Legald (bottom right) have agreed to take part. Andrej Kupetz, CEO of the German Design Council, will be chairman of the jury (bottom, second from right).
