DFGP "Design for Growth and Prosperity", the report by the European Design Leadership Board contains 21 concrete policy recommendations to the European Commission on how we could make better use of design as a driver of growth and a tool for competitiveness.

The European Design Leadership Board was tasked to consider how links between design, innovation and competitiveness could be strengthened. As the European economy continues to face challenges, the report opens up new visions of growth. The Board submitted its report to Commission Vice President Antonio Tajani at the European Design Innovation Summit in Helsinki.

European Design Leadership Board chosen

In line with the commitment taken in the Innovation Union, the European Commission launches in 2011 the European Design Innovation Initiative (EDII) to exploit the full potential of design for innovation.

The goal of the initiative is to:
- raise the awareness of design as a driver of innovation in Europe.
- enhance its role as a key discipline to bring ideas to market transforming them into user-friendly and apealing products, processes or services by enterprises and public services in the EU.

EDII Secretariat is based in Aalto University, Helsinki, Finland.

BEDA Members Invited to European Design Leadership Board

At the invitation of European Commission Vice-President Antonio Tajani, (BEDA) President, Deborah Dawton (United Kingdom) and Vice-President Isabel Roig (Spain), attended the first meeting of the newly established European Design Leadership Board which took place in Helsinki on Friday 27 May 2011.
