German Design Council
The Foundation German Design Council was formed in 1953, driven by the BDI (Federation of German Industries) and by resolution of the German Parliament, to meet the increasing demand from business, politics and research for information on the subject of design.
What we do:
Today, the German Design Council is one of the world’s leading competence centres for communication and knowledge transfer in the field of design. The circle of members currently comprises more than 300 companies, who together employ over 3 million people.

The winners of the first edition of the German Innovation Awards were honoured in a festive gala held at the Deutsches Technikmuseum (German Museum of Technology) in Berlin on 6 June 2018.
The ‘ein&zwanzig’ (“twenty-one”) awards were presented on 16 April on the occasion of Milan Design Week 2018 in Zona Tortona.
From 17 to 22 April 2018, the German Design Council will be showcasing the 21 winners of the young talents award ‘ein&zwanzig’. The innovative work of outstanding young product designers from all over the world will be on display as part of the Milan Design Week in the Tortona Design District.
The 2018 German Design Awards were held on 9 February 2018. In the competition’s 49 categories, a total of 45 gold prizes were awarded.
Jil Sander, one of the most influential fashion designers of our time, is to receive the 2018 German Design Award’s Personality Prize. She will accept this prize at an Awards Ceremony in Frankfurt on 9 February 2018.
