BuildingForLifeThe sign of a good place to live

Building for Life 12 is the industry standard for the design of new housing developments. Cabe at the Design Council firmly believes that housing should be attractive, functional and sustainable – this guide presents a model for how this can be achieved.

Building for Life 12 is a guide to building well-designed homes and neighbourhoods. It is based on the National Planning Policy Framework and the UK Government’s commitment to build more homes, better homes and involve local communities in planning.

The 12 questions are designed to help structure discussions between local communities, the local planning authority, the developer of a proposed scheme and other stakeholders.

Building for Life 12 is also designed to help local planning authorities assess the quality of proposed and completed developments, and as a point of reference in the preparation of local design policies.

by the Building for Life Partnership (Cabe at the Design Council, Design for Homes and the Home Builders Federation) with the assistance of Nottingham Trent University.
