BEDA_ToolBox_ImgThe contents of the BEDA Tool Box are aimed at supporting and developing designers across Europe. They include useful documents developed by BEDA such as the Code of Conduct for Designers and the Policy of Free Pitching, based on Best Practice papers by ICOGRADA (International Council of Graphic Design Associations).

The Code of Conduct for Designers explains the international basis of ethical standards in relation to the practice of design. It gives an important overview of the responsibilities of the design profession, discusses payment and makes recommendations about advertising.

The Policy of Free Pitching draws attention to the problem of speculative pitching, which can undermine the value of design services. This subject is becoming more and more important, and this document offers guidelines for avoiding this situation.

The BEDA Competition Guidelines provide a framework for setting up and running an open design competition; this is not just for associations that organise or wish to organise these competitions, but also for designers entering competitions, as it provides information about fair and correct procedures.

The NACE Code for Design refers to the European industry standard classification system, which has been adopted for design activities in many European countries. This has been a very important step in formalising the structure of the profession, and in defining its economic measures.

BEDA hopes to increase its membership in coming months, so we hope that if you find the documents useful, you’ll support and promote the Toolbox within your country by sharing the link with your colleagues and professional partners.
