Navigating the Realm of Design Protection from a User’s Perspective seminar by EUIPO is happening for the first time online and with the involvement of user associations, including BEDA and is an interactive exchange around the topic of design protection, engaging all stakeholders in the discussion. BEDA is delighted to take part and represent the design community, and share expertise on value creation by design, the actual and future challenges and the needs of the community.
Among the other great speakers at the event, Isabelle VÉRILHAC (Former President, BEDA), Iiris ADENIUS (Legal Adviser, Ornamo), Christian HANKE (Designer and CEO, Edenspiekermann) will share the insights from the designers during the first day of the seminar.

Isabelle Vérilhac
Isabelle is BEDA Past President of the Bureau of European Design Associations, including design promotion and innovation centres and design professional associations. She holds a Post-Diploma in design & research and a Doctorate in material chemical physics. She was the President of the EUIPO DesignEuropa Awards 2023 and a member of the jury 2024. Isabelle Vérilhac is the Founder and CEO of Design With Isabelle, a design expert office for transition towards a more sustainable and inclusive future.
Iiris Adenius
Iiris is a lawyer with a broad understanding of intellectual property rights and how they relate to contracts and building sustainable businesses, especially in the field of design. In addition to her legal degree (LL.M.), she has a master’s degree in business (M.Sc. (Econ.)) and she currently advises designers and leads IP-related projects in Ornamo Art and Design Finland.
Christian Hanke
Christian is CEO & Partner of the independent design consultancy Edenspiekermann with offices in Berlin, Amsterdam, New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco. He enjoyed the past decade working with industries having to reinvent their product and business from scratch like health, mobility and journalism.
Coming from a background in design originally, to him innovating business, products and teams alike is the change that matters most. The bandwidth of his work spans from global consumer brands like Mercedes-Benz and Red Bull to Startups like GetYourGuide.
He has shaped the movement of user-centric product development within digital journalism working with over 40 editorial teams internally. Clients included media outlets like The Economist, NZZ, Irish Independent, Stern, SWR, Sueddeutsche and Zeit Online, Der Standard und Die Presse from over 20 different publishing entities. With his teams, he developed their own products and won several fundings from Google’s DNI — the world’s biggest innovation fund in digital journalism.
