From 8 May to 22 June 2025, Z33 in Hasselt will present the exhibition All The Small Things. This expo brings together the work of three promising young designers: Eszter Nagy, Julie Merlino and Yufei Gao. They took part in the Designers in Residence Kortrijk 2024 programme, an initiative of Designregio Kortrijk that has invited three international designers every year since 2014 to live, work and experiment in Kortrijk for three months around a socially relevant theme.
All The Small Things explores how textiles, tradition, craft and technology meet and influence each other. The three designers were inspired by Kortrijk’s rich past as a textile city and translated this into contemporary designs. Yufei Gao focuses on borders, migration and identity. Eszter Nagy explores how digital imaging can be translated into woven structures. Julie Merlino plays with visual phenomena such as moiré effects in textiles.
The exhibition shows how small interventions, materials and ideas can have a big impact on how we think about sustainability, heritage and innovation. The result is a poetic, thought-provoking reflection on the role of design in a rapidly changing world.
