How Design Can Help Promote Integration and Diversity
People with a migration background now make up almost one-third of German society. In this context, good design can play a powerful role in fostering sustainable coexistence—whether through inclusive public spaces in cities, design approaches that support diversity in organisations, or even newly designed sports programs in schools.
The Social Design Days 2026 focus precisely on this topic. Together, participants will explore how design can help people from different backgrounds and life experiences grow together and develop a new sense of belonging. The event will also examine how new ideas and innovations can emerge from this process, making diversity a tangible opportunity for both business and society.
The event features an engaging program of talks, panel discussions, and an interactive workshop. Success stories, opportunities, and challenges from businesses, municipalities, and civil society organisations will take center stage.
During the Social Design Talks on Wednesday, three panel discussions will focus on fostering cohesion in business, local communities, and civil society. International speakers from universities, design studios, and companies will share their expertise and perspectives.
The Social Design Jam, held from Thursday to Friday, is a hands-on workshop in which participants will collaboratively develop design-based solutions to a concrete challenge related to the annual theme.
The event is aimed at professionals from businesses, municipalities, the design and creative sectors, as well as anyone passionate about the topic and eager to contribute their ideas and experience.
