As part of Barcelona Design Week 2026, Underground BDW returns from 22 to 24 October, transforming the Parking Gallery at LCI Barcelona into an unconventional space for experimental and emerging design.
Following the success of its 2024 and 2025 editions, the event once again brings together companies, creators, collectives and design schools exploring new ways of thinking, making and experiencing design. Prototypes, interactive installations and experimental proposals turn the space into an immersive journey where visitors are invited not only to observe, but also to enter, test, interact and experience.
Aligned with the ambition to contribute to a more sustainable and human future, Underground BDW is also part of the Barcelona 2026 World Capital of Architecture programme.
Among this year’s exhibitors is Next Gen Design, a European initiative supporting emerging creative talent and exploring the transformative potential of circular design. The exhibition presents 50 projects selected through its second Open Call, addressing social, environmental and technological challenges from sustainable, inclusive and impact-driven perspectives.
Ahead of the exhibition, from 19 to 22 October, ten young designers selected through the Next Gen Design Open Call will take part in the Young Creatives Residence, organised by the Barcelona Creativity & Design Foundation.
Working in teams of two, participants will identify opportunities, develop concepts and materialise them into prototype outcomes responding to a proposed challenge, drawing on sustainability and circular economy perspectives.
Together, the exhibition and residency reflect the wider spirit of Barcelona Design Week: design as a process of experimentation, testing and prototyping, capable of generating new responses to contemporary challenges.
