A New Beginning for "Progetto Grafico" as a Scientific Journal
The release of issue 41 of “Progetto Grafico”, the historic periodical published by AIAP, marks the beginning of a new editorial phase to respond in a complementary way to the needs of the design community.
With “Writing of Complexity,” “Progetto Grafico” is revamping as a scientific Journal dedicated to academic and theoretical research in the field of visual communication. This interdisciplinary and international Journal is openly accessible online, in English and Italian.
Issue 41 of the Journal addresses the theme “Writings of Complexity: Rethinking the Codex Form,” questioning the radical transformation of writing systems and the transmission of knowledge in the digital age.
The selected contributions explore how, in recent years, digital technologies and information infrastructures have challenged the paradigm of linear alphabetic writing, historically dominant in the articulation of Western knowledge, opening up spaces for hybrid, multimodal, and synsemic languages that coexist, layer, and generate new ways of organising knowledge.
The central issue concerns the abandonment of the linearity of traditional writing and the emergence of communicative codes that integrate text, image, sound, movement, and interaction in simultaneous expressive systems. The volume documents how this transition does not simply represent a technological shift, but an epistemological transformation that redefines how thought is structured, transmitted, and accessed.
A rich, dense volume, with a cover designed specifically by Mauro Bubbico, and embellished with the Calvino typeface, courtesy of Zetafonts, for texts and the masthead.
