Advancing the Skills Agenda for Europe’s Creative Sectors: Highlights from the 5th LSP CCI Plenary Meeting

Last week, on 15 January, BEDA co-led the 5th online plenary meeting of the LSP CCI (Creative Pact for Skills), marking another milestone in advancing the skills agenda for Europe’s creative sectors. Held during a pivotal moment, this meeting not only reviewed past achievements but also set the course for future initiatives aimed at enhancing the creative landscape across Europe.

The plenary gathered more than 80 attendants and kicked off with an introduction by the 3 co-leader organisations –namely BEDA, CreativeFED, and Creative Skills Europe–, setting the tone for a session focused on collaborative progress and strategic planning. Updates from the European Commission provided insights into new policies and opportunities, highlighting the role of creative skills in Europe’s plan for sustainable prosperity and competitiveness.

One of the central elements of the meeting was the discussion on the 2025 – 2026 Creative Pact for Skills Work Plan. This plan outlines a strategic approach to upskilling and reskilling within the creative industries, aiming to involve 25% of the workforce in continuous learning by 2030. The commitment to a life-long learning ecosystem, which is both accessible and affordable, was reiterated, emphasizing the partnership’s dedication to enhancing sectoral capabilities.

The session also revisited the 2024 Creative Skills Week, celebrating its success and brainstorming plans for the 2025 edition, in Prague. This reflection was instrumental in understanding the impact of such gatherings and in shaping a more inclusive and effective agenda for the next year.

In breakout rooms, participants engaged deeply with specific topics, led by the Working Group leaders. These discussions were geared towards addressing immediate and strategic skill needs across different sectors of the creative industries, from digital and entrepreneurial skills to green transformation and regional partnerships.

As the meeting wrapped up, the next steps were outlined:

  • Members were encouraged to provide feedback on the new work plan and to participate in the upcoming European Commission’s Pact for Skills annual survey.
  • There was a call for continued development of activities by the working group leaders, focusing on their respective areas.
  • The session concluded with a push for greater involvement in Creative Skills Week 2025 and other upcoming initiatives, ensuring the partnership’s dynamic engagement with the creative community continues.

This plenary meeting not only reinforced the LSP CCI’s role as a catalyst for skills development but also highlighted the collaborative spirit that defines the creative sectors in Europe. As we move forward, BEDA remains committed to supporting these initiatives, fostering an environment where creativity and skill can thrive together.
