AIAP Turns 80: News and Initiatives

The Italian Association of Visual Communication Design was founded in 1945 and will celebrate its 80th anniversary in 2025. A birthday rich in culture, people and territories celebrated through several initiatives, including workshops, events and exhibitions. You can consult the programme here.

On 19 September, the annual National Assembly is scheduled in Bologna, during which the Association’s board members will be re-elected.

Last June, the new digital platform of the Graphic Design Documentation Centre (AIAP CDPG) was officially launched. The project is funded by the European Union’s NextGenerationEU initiative, as part of the PNRR (National Recovery and Resilience Plan), in accordance with the Directorial Decree No. 385, dated 19 October 2022, under Sub-investment 3.3.2: ‘Support for innovation and digital transition in the cultural and creative sectors’ (Project Reference No. TOCC0001515, COR 15905620, CUP C87J23000580008). This online tool enables AIAP to showcase and promote the over 120 collections held at the Centre and its associated activities. See https://aiap.it/cdpg/en/.

On the subject of the Documentation Centre, the volume “A Guide to the Funds: AIAP CDPG Summary”, which summarises the heritage of the Historical Archive and the Graphic Design Library, was published in the spring. This valuable tool is available in English and Italian here. It provides insight into a unique cultural and collective heritage, one of the richest and most varied collections in the Italian panorama and beyond. It preserves thousands of documents and original materials relating to Italian and international graphic design history.

Finally, with the support of the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano, AIAP Edizioni has published “Let’s Talk(s): Gender Equity in Design and Art”. Edited by Letizia Bollini, the book (in English) brings together a series of essays offering varied perspectives on gender and inclusion within design culture and art. Authors such as Nitzan Cohen, Eva Leitolf, Valeria Bucchetti, Patrizia Marti, Francesco E. Guida and Vera Gheno discuss these topics, addressing critical issues for academic education and professional practice. The book is available here.
