Brandbrief Gains Momentum: Strengthening the Voice of Europe's Creative and Design Sectors

BEDA supports Brandbrief.eu, a European advocacy initiative calling for stronger recognition of Cultural and Creative Industries (CCIs) within future EU funding programmes, particularly the proposed European Competitiveness Fund (ECF) and the next EU research framework programme, FP10 Horizon. The initiative highlights the vital role that culture, creativity, and design play in driving innovation, competitiveness, and Europe’s digital future.

The campaign continues to grow, bringing together 70 network organisations and 151 individual supporters from across Europe. According to a recent network analysis, the initiative now reaches more than 500,000 creative professionals, making it one of the largest coordinated advocacy efforts for the cultural and creative sectors at the European level.

A key milestone is expected in November, when the European Parliament will convene a discussion between the ITRE Committee (Industry, Research and Energy) and the CULT Committee (Culture and Education) on how future Horizon funding can better support Cultural and Creative Industries. This marks an important step towards recognising the contribution of culture, creativity, and design within Europe’s innovation ecosystem.

For the design community, these discussions are particularly relevant. Including design in future competitiveness and research programmes will help secure funding, innovation opportunities, and policy frameworks that recognise design as a strategic driver of economic and societal value.

In parallel with its support for Brandbrief, BEDA has also developed its own position paper advocating for the inclusion of design within the European Competitiveness Fund.
