By Design, Grant Evaluation – Research Report
Lack of data on impact of design interventions is an often quoted barrier of broader adoption of design-driven innovation.
In 2019, PDR at Cardiff Metropolitan University conducted an evaluation of the experience and impact of the By Design grant on participating companies as part of the User Factor project funded by Atlantic Area.
By Design is a light-touch grant to support Scottish small and medium-sized enterprises to use design and work with Scottish Enterprise for the first time. As a result of this support:
64% of companies launched a new product or service
63% of companies expect to make over £100k over 3 years
68% of companies collaborated further with a design agency
71% increased their investment in design
