PDR’s New Research Paper Describes Process of Uncovering and Strengthening Hidden Innovation in Creative SMEs
‘Naming Our “Invisible Work”: Uncovering and Strengthening Hidden Innovation in Creative SMEs Through Design-Thinking-Led R and D’ is a paper authored by Dr Sally Cloke (formerly of PDR) and co-authored by current PDR staff members, Prof. Andrew Walters and Jo Ward.
It showcases how PDR supported creative businesses through the Clwstwr programme by helping them to adopt a design-led approach and innovate in ways that truly met their needs.
The paper delves into the experiences of projects funded by Clwstwr, examining their perspectives on R&D before and after engaging with PDR and Clwstwr.
Dr Sally Cloke, lead author of the paper, shared her thoughts on the research:
“One of the most interesting findings from our research was that using a design thinking-led approach to R&D can do more than enable creative practitioners to be more innovative, it can change their self-understanding.”
