Position Paper in Short
The position paper points to three crucial themes that need attention and ACTION to unleash the potential of designers, as skills, as a creative capacity, as methods and as approaches to innovation.
Deploy design – including fostering skills and lifelong learning, investing in design research to bridge the science-implementation gap, and strengthening intellectual property rights.
Strengthen democracy by rebuilding trust and citizen engagement with design methods – including engage in citizen-centric policy-making and allocating funds to design projects that address social challenges.
Create a safe Europe for the digital extension of our living environments through design – including supporting the need for a harmonised European mutual understanding between all European Member states of the AI-act and safeguard and promote public values in the digital transitions.

The position paper is the result of a co-creation process involving the BEDA board and BEDA members, thus this paper truly represents the voice of design in Europe. To emphasise the importance of this Position Paper, BEDA sent it to newly elected and reelected members of the European Parliament representing all Member states.
