Design is What Makes Innovation Visible and Emotionally Resonant - DesignEuropa Awards 2025
On 23 September, the DesignEuropa Awards Ceremony 2025 was held in Copenhagen, Denmark. The Award is organised by the European Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) and celebrates the finest achievements in industrial design, recognising exceptional creativity and innovation across Europe.
Over the past two decades, the protection of designs has been a game-changer for businesses. According to a 2025 study from the EUIPO and European Patent Office, designs enhance firm performance, delivering a 29.3% increase in revenue and a 24.8% rise in wages. These figures are not theoretical – they reflect the real economic strength of European design.

The Executive Director of the EUIPO, João Negrão, during his speech at the DesignEuropa Awards ceremony, emphasised the potential that design has in creating value. Mr Negrão urged a shift in mindset: design should be seen as central to innovation and market success, and he called for equal protection of aesthetic innovation, just as we protect patents and trade marks.

BEDA was honoured to be part of the jury team also in this edition of the DesignEuropa Awards. Christina Melander, BEDA President, was the Chairperson of the Jury, along with the fellow jury members Isabelle Vérilhac and Päivi Tahkokallio, both Former Presidents of BEDA.
BEDA recognises and supports the importance and value of design protection and has been collaborating with the EUIPO on a mission to strengthen Europe’s prosperity through design and intellectual property rights protection.
